Towle Whitney designs and builds variable speed booster pump systems for office buildings / college dormitories / schools of all sizes.
Some of our recent projects are listed below. A small description of each project specifies the parameters of plumbing setup, the  basis
for booster system design and the information regarding the system that was installed:
450+ Bed Hospital - Lexington, KY
The 30 year old constant speed booster system wore out and
needed to be replaced. The existing system had three 25HP
direct coupled pumps with various obsolete components such as
the hydraulic control valve, cycle timer, aquastat etc.

Engineers and Master plumbers at Towle Whitney deigned a
Triplex
HILO booster system with a modular setup and a 100%
redundancy. The system is currently in operation with a much
lower energy consumption. The jockey pump handles all the
off-peak demand and the two main pumps only operate at peak
demand in a lead/lag sequence. The main pumps alternate every
48 hours.

102 Bed Nursing Home - Cranston, RI
Installation of a backflow preventer at this 102 bed nursing home
brought the already marginal low pressure down to an
unsatisfactory level.

Towle Whitney supplied a modular duplex variable speed booster
system. The suction and discharge manifolds were customized
with additional fittings to match existing piping. The pumps
operate in a lead/lag sequence and the lead pump alternates
every 48 hours supplying constant high pressure to all rooms
while achieving significant energy savings.

Medical Office Building - Philadelphia, PA
The medical office building at a large university hospital in
Philadelphia had an old constant speed booster system which
was generating huge electricity bills by running 24/7/365. The
duplex system had two 5HP direct coupled pumps with various
obsolete components such as the hydraulic control valve, cycle
timer, aquastat etc.

Towle Whitney deigned a Triplex
HILO booster system with a
jockey pump and two main pumps. The system is equipped with
independent variable frequency drives, and disconnects switches
for each pump unit. The manifolds are accessible from both ends
due to roll grooved ends.

Equipment at Hospital - Omaha, NE
The dialysis equipment at a hospital in Omaha, NE had
inadequate pressure to perform optimally. There was a hot and
cold water line going to the equipment and both needed a
pressure boost.

A compact duplex variable speed booster system was designed
by Towle Whitney to boost the pressure on both lines to a specific
pressure setpoint resulting in constant high discharge pressure
and satisfactory operation of the critical medical equipment.
